TikTok is a place for storytelling; a place where people push the boundaries of creativity to produce imaginative, compelling content every day.
The voiceover feature on TikTok is a useful feature that adds some extra flair to your videos.
With Voiceover, brands, users and Creators can add a voiceover track to their videos, so they can narrate their story, sing along to their favourite song, or create instructional content with ease â and with a range of additional voice modification effects that range from baritone to chipmunk and beyond, the opportunities to enhance your video are endless.
Sounds simple, right? It is. Hereâs a quick step-by-step guide to adding voiceovers to your TikToks.
Why You Should Add a Voiceover to a TikTok Video
A voiceover unlocks a whole new world of TikTok videos. One popular trend uses this feature to manifest a petâs inner thoughts and unique personality traits, with hilarious results.
Another great use for it is with a tutorial. In your video, you can show how to build or create something from your point of view, and add narration after the fact to provide more explanations. Some creators use the voiceover to narrate vlogs such as âmorning routineâ, or a âday in my lifeâ.
With the voiceover tool, you can also add specific sounds and effects that you canât find in the appâs library. There is even a way for you to use a Siri-like voice instead of your own, with the TikTok voice-to-speech feature.
How to do a voiceover on TikTok
1. Open the TikTok app (on iOS or Android) and log into your account if prompted.
2. Tap on the plus “+” sign icon to create a new TikTok.
3. Record a video or upload an existing one, as you would normally.
4.Once you’ve reached the video editing screen, tap the microphone icon labeled “Voiceover.”

5.Tap or long-press the “Record” button to begin recording your voiceover. You can also remove the video’s original sound by tapping “Keep original sound” so that the check mark disappears.
6.Once you’ve finished recording, review your voiceover by tapping the “Play” button on the video. If you’re satisfied with it, tap “Save.”

7.Add any other effects you’d like to include, then tap “Next.”

8.Type a description for your video and choose its other settings as you normally would. Finally, tap “Post” to publish your video.
How to Change Your Voice on TikTok

In order to use Voice Effects, your video must include your own voice. For instance, you cannot use Voice Effects in videos you create with the built-in templates that contain music.
1.Open TikTok and tap the + (plus sign) at the bottom to start recording your video.
2.Tap the Record button, capture your video as you normally would, and tap it once more to pause or stop recording. Then, tap the check mark when you’re finished recording.
3.In the collection of options on the top right, tap Voice Effects.
4.When the window pops up from the bottom, tap to hear each of the effects. If you want to use one, leave it selected and tap away from the window. If you decide not to use an effect, tap None on the far left.
5.You can then apply any other effects to your video like text or stickers. Tap Next when you finish.

6.Continue to select your Post options, save the video, or simply tap Post like any other video you create.

- Giant: Deeper than Baritone, like a big, jolly giant.
How to use TikTokâs editing tools
1. To add music
Music is a major part of the TikTok experience and adding a track to your video is a brilliant way to increase engagement.
To find a track, tap âSoundsâ at the top of your screen. This will open the TikTok Sounds Library where you will see thousands of up-and-coming tracks categorised by popularity, challenge and theme. Once youâve found a track you like, click on it and press the pink tick. Then, tap the âTrimâ button on the right hand side of your screen, before dragging the sound bar to indicate where in your video youâd like your track to play. To finish, press the pink tick.
If your account has been identified as a promotional or official brand account, youâll only be able to use tracks from TikTokâs Commercial Music Library. This is a pool of more than 150,000 pre-cleared, royalty-free tracks sourced from emerging artists and top-tier music houses.

2. To switch cameras
Capturing a variety of perspectives or backgrounds can make your video more interesting. Use the âFlipâ button on the top right hand side of your screen to quickly move between your deviceâs front and back cameras. You can also do this by double-tapping your screen.
3. To change speed
Adjusting the pace of your video is a fun way to make it feel more dramatic or playful. You can speed up or slow down your video using the speed buttons at the bottom of your screen. Choose 0.3x or 0.5x for a slow motion effect, or try 2x or 3x to fast forward.
4. To apply a filter
With filters, you can easily change the aesthetic of your video. To find a filter, tap the âFilterâ button on the right hand side of your screen. You can also access filters by swiping your finger left or right across your screen. There are four main filter categories: portrait, landscape, food and vibe.
You will also see a âBeautyâ button on the right hand side of your screen. This button activates Beauty Mode by applying a filter that makes skin appear more smooth. This filter can be used at the same time as other filters.

5. To shoot hands-free
Going hands-free is easy with the Timer tool. Press the âTimerâ button on the right hand side of your screen. Press â3sâ or â10sâ to set your timer, then drag the bar at the bottom of the screen to choose the length of your recording. When youâre ready to begin, hit âStart countdownâ.
6. To add effects
From changing the background with GreenScreen to duplicating people with Multiplier, effects can take your video to another level. Press the âEffectsâ button on the bottom left hand side of your screen. You will see the effects library where effects are categorised into genres like âNewâ, âTrendingâ, âSpecial Effectsâ and âInteractiveâ. You can preview an effect by tapping on it. Once youâve found the effect you want to use, tap the main screen to begin recording.

7. To add text
Once youâre happy with your recording, tap the pink tick on the bottom right hand side of your screen. You will then see more editing tools, including âTextâ.
Tap the âTextâ button and type your message. You can also use the buttons above the keyboard to change the font style, alignment and colour of your copy. To set the point at which the text appears in your video, hold down on the text youâve created and press âSet durationâ. Drag the bar to choose when the text will appear and disappear.
8. To record a voiceover
With the Voiceover tool you can narrate your video to add another layer to your storytelling or create a âhow toâ. Tap the âVoiceoverâ button on the right hand side of the second editing screen. Drag the bar to choose the point in your video that you would like to voice over, then press âRecordâ.
How to share a video on TikTok
When your video is ready, hit the âNextâ button. This will take you to the caption page where you can describe your TikTok, tag Creators and share your video across different channels. Press âPostâ on the bottom right hand side to share.
